The Trump Administration launches the Women’s Global Development and Prosperity Initiative

On July 10, USAID Administrator Mark Green and Advisor to the President Ivanka Trump announce partners and new projects through the Women’s Global Development and Prosperity(W-GDP) Initiative.  The W-GDP initiative launched 14 new projects with more than 200 public and private sector partners in 22 countries. These new partnerships will enable W-GDP seeks to reach 50 million women in the developing world by 2025 through U.S. government activities, private-public partnerships, and a new, innovative fund. This is a bold new initiative is the first whole government strategy to advance women’s global empowerment. These partners include representatives from bilateral and multilateral donors, non-government organizations, universities, foreign governments, and the private sector. They will achieve their goal by focusing on the three pillars of the W-GDP, which are women prospering in the workforce, women succeeding as entrepreneurs, and women enabled in the economy.

The USAID will mange the central W_GDP fund, established through National Security Presidential Memorandum-16  and has earmarked $27 million for the various global projects. One of those projects is the Women prospering in Technology project, which will work with information and communications companies to equip 8,700 women in Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru with the skills they need for placement and promotion in the tech sector.

Ivanka Trump said,

Through our three core pillars of women prospering in the workforce, succeeding as entrepreneurs, and advancing economic equality under the law, we are committed to delivering real results that create transformational change for women in developing countries.”

The Republican Hispanic National Assembly commends Ivanka Trump, Advisor to the President, and USAID Administrator Mark Green for taking such a bold and innovative position for women in developing countries in Latin America.
