Governor Gavin Newsom(D-California) has unveiled a plan that would provide illegal immigrants $500 dollar stimulus checks to assist them during the COVID-19 pandemic.  This is in direct response to President Trump and the GOP excluding illegal immigrants from receiving federal stimulus checks.

According to Town Hall, Governor Newsom said,

California is the most diverse state in the nation. Our diversity makes us stronger and more resilient. Every Californian, including our undocumented neighbors and friends, should know that California is here to support them during this crisis, ..We are all in this together.

To give illegal immigrants these $ 500 dollar stimulus checks, Newsom will be authorizing 75 million taxpayer dollars from California’s disaster relief fund and getting another 50 million dollars from donors. According to Forbes California is in the top 13.3% of states that have the highest taxes.

During the shutdown, 22 million people lost are out of work, and unemployment is skyrocketing. Instead of giving all the Citizens of California a check for 500 dollars, he is wasting 75 million in taxpayer dollars on illegal immigrants. Money that Californians desperately needed in this time of crisis. In addition, Newsom is not expanding this program to include legal Californians living in the State. This program is specifically for illegal immigrants. California’s disaster relief fund is supposed to be used to benefit Californians who are suffering in times of crisis. Instead, Governor Newsom is spending the money on illegal immigrants while Californians continue to suffer.
