California State
Carina Powers, State Chairwoman
Carina Powers was born and raised in Salinas, California; the “Salad bowl” of the world. First generation born in the United States. She has seen firsthand the struggles of the Hispanic community, having worked in the fields herself. As a young girl, Carina marched with her father alongside Cesar Chavez while fighting to protect California’s vital farming communities. This is where the activist in her, was born. Driven to fight for her children’s medical freedoms, she began to be active with legislation as bills were being introduced that would result in loosing basic rights, if passed. She then realized the disconnect of information that was not making it to the Hispanic households, as they were the the ones deeply affected by these bills. In 2019 she founded a grassroots organization, named Latinos for Medical Freedom. Despite her children having lost their freedoms to attend public and/or private schools, she gained firsthand knowledge of the advantage of being politically involved and recognizing that her values were not aligning within her party. That September of 2019, the Republican Party gained a new member and she then later joined the Republican National Hispanic Assembly of California, eventually chaptering in Monterey County. She began to lobby for and against bills. She volunteered for candidates that supported Hispanics values throughout the state of California. Where she coined her favorite phrase; “Basta ya con las mentiras, Basta ya con el silencio, somos la clave!” As a wife, mother of 5, business owner, homeschooling Mom, she has identified the many issues that were deeply affecting Hispanic communities and continued the fight from various facets. She partnered up with several organizations to bring forth the Hispanic sentiment. She has traveled up and down the state to speak to several communities by registering them to vote, guiding them to speak at school boards, city council meetings and encouraging them to be more involved. All while bringing the plight of the Hispanic community out of the shadows. Carina believes that Hispanics are the key to flipping the state and understands how to engage them.
