Whatever Happened to Respect?

Respect seems to be thrown out the window along with dignity and common sense within this time of age, where it is desired yet not given. Democratic state senator from Illinois came under fire after photos were posted onto Twitter where supporters at a fundraising event performed a mock assassination of a faux President Trump. Not only did this spark outrage upon the Republican view point, but even on the Democrat side where Democratic Governor J.B. Pritzker stated, “As our nation grapples with the epidemic of gun violence, purposely pointing a fake gun at anyone is insensitive and wrong (…) I condemn actions like the ones displayed in the pictures because they lack the civility our politics demands.”

Despite Sen. Sandoval apology towards his supporters’ actions at his event, how can one approve of such ill imagery? The rhetoric has become extremely vile towards President Trump that the seven letter word is nowhere to be seen or even used. Civility or morality can be illustrated as such devices to be tossed around until need be. One can imagine the outrage if this was exact situation was turned around and instead of President Trump, but a former President. 

As US citizens, freedom of speech, assembly and press are taken for granted. In addition to the cycle of hypocrisy, how can one expect a sincere action to be done onto them if they are condoning ill illustrations or discussions? Respect should not be solely considered as superficial, but part of an internal characteristic.
