What Happened to Freedom?

“I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it…” Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (AMLO) quoted Voltaire during his daily news conference last Monday, expressing his shock of the US media censoring President Trump. He genuinely wondered about what has happened to the United States’ resolve to protecting freedom of speech. I’ve even wondered what happened to the United States being the country of the free?

Undeniably, something like this has never happened before in our modern times, where those who control technology and press coverage have the power even to censor a duly elected President. Not just him, but conservative voices across multiple platforms are demonetized, shadowbanned, or have had their pages taken down by big tech.

Barely a month ago, in Helena, the Montanan Republican Field Offices’ Facebook page was taken down because it was going against “community standards.” Even after appealing to have the page restored, Facebook refused and gave no specific reason for unpublishing the page. This is why conservatives are leaving these Social Media giants by the droves for Parlor or Mewe.

How is it that Big tech’s “community standards” have more weight than the standards & rights guaranteed by the US Constitution? The media are not far behind when it comes to selective news broadcasts and censoring anything that does not fit their narrative. You don’t have to look very far for proof. The latest gaslighting attempt by the Associated Press is declaring Biden as the “legitimate” winner of the presidential election when the electoral process isn’t over yet. Apparently, the media can now determine winners of elections without waiting for the final results and pending legal battles.

Even AMLO received backlash and criticism for not following the premature lead of other world leaders and the Media on congratulating Biden. However, on Wednesday, he doubled down on Mexico’s position to refuse to recognize Biden as President-Elect: “We cannot recognize any government that has not been legally and legitimately constituted.” He continued, “I have to respect the citizens of other countries… how can we irresponsibly pronounce one or the other when it’s not our place too. That is interventionism. And if we don’t recognize him [Biden], then we will face retaliation? No, there should not be any retaliation because we are adhering to our principles and legality. Furthermore, we are not a colony; we are a sovereign free independent country.”

Like AMLO, Americans across the country will not recognize Biden as President until he has been legally constituted. However, after four years of #notmypresident, we are hypocritically told to accept the results because… the press said so? No, my friends. Liberals should want us to vet this election instead of trying to subjugate us. We don’t have the results of the election, so how can we accept it? They should want to know who won fair and square instead of trying to force us to accept defeat.

Democrats should be following the Mexican President’s wise example and support a free and fair election process by not proclaiming anything until the final result. Unfortunately, I’m not allowed to express this truth because the Social Giants have pinned Biden as the winner to every post regarding the election. They are the “thought police” in the guise of “fact-checkers.”

We aren’t free nor allowed to think for ourselves anymore. Instead, we are told what to think, and if we don’t conform to approved opinions and popular ideas, then we must be silenced and demonized.

Presidents may change, laws may condemn you, Tech Giants may censor you, but your independent thoughts & actions and what’s burning in your heart can’t be taken away by them. Despite the circumstances, we can choose to be free by speaking up because It’s more than a law;
it’s a way of life. So what happened to freedom? It’s there. You need to use it.
